Designing Instruction for Adult Learners By popular demand, we bring back Dr. Vernon Curran, Co-Director of the Centre for Collaborative Health Professional Education and an Associate Professor of Medical Education with the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland. When this course was offered at CHLA/ABSC in 2004, it received a rating of 4.45 out of 5. Don’t miss this opportunity! This course is intended to introduce participants to fundamental principles and methods underlying the instructional design process. Instructional design is a systematic process for making decisions about the development, delivery and evaluation of learning activities. The basic process of instructional design consists of needs assessment, designing and developing instructional strategies, delivery and evaluation to ensure that goals and objectives have been met. In this course, participants will have the opportunity to apply these steps in the design of adult learning programs. Participants will also have an opportunity to learn about themselves as adult educators and identify and discuss the unique characteristics of adult learners and the implications for the design of adult learning instruction. Comments from CHLA/ABSC Evaluation Forms: I learned a lot and especially enjoyed the morning session on developing and meeting learning objectives. The pace was good and group work was interesting. An exceptional course from an exceptional instructor! Excellent information; knowledgeable presenter; very engaging style of instruction. There was a lot to cover! My head is still reeling. Handouts will definitely be used in the future. Thanks very much. Excellent presenter – very relevant to our work.
