Contributed Papers
In libraries we constantly walk the fine line between honouring our heritage and legacy and incorporating innovative resources and practices into our service provision. We invite you to share your research findings and practical observations. How do you incorporate proven practice with forward-looking innovations? Papers will be accepted from a broad range of topics. The following questions are intended to evoke your expressions of interest:
- How are our core missions, values, and services evolving as we move into the future?
- Have the economic downturn, the aging workforce, and technological advances driven your programs, services and collections…your library or agency?
- What innovations have you implemented to do more with less, to reach more users, to teach more effectively?
Accepted contributed papers will each be allotted approximately 20 minutes for presentation, plus 5-10 minutes for questions.
To be considered, please submit the following information by January 11, 2010:
- title of the paper
- a short structured abstract of 250 words or less (follow JCHLA/JABSC Instructions to Authors at: http://pubservices.nrc-cnrc.ca/clients/eng/journals/instruct_jchla.html)
- author(s) name(s), address, email and work phone number (indicate corresponding author)
Send your proposal to the Program Committee chair, Sarah Wickett (wicketts@queensu.ca)
Those submitting abstracts for contributed papers will be contacted by the Program Committee by February 1, 2010. Please note that conference registration fees will not be waived for presenters of contributed papers or posters.
Roundtable Discussions
The roundtable session will provide a focussed and interactive setting in which participants will discuss and exchange views on a variety of topics.
A. The program committee is inviting submissions for roundtable topics that you would facilitate. The group will have about 45 minutes to discuss this topic and create a brief summary. Roundtable facilitation provides delegates with an opportunity to contribute to the content of the conference in a manner that is less formal than the traditional format of a contributed paper. Facilitators will provide a brief summary of the topic, guide the group through a collaborative conversation, and provide a brief summary of the discussion to the whole attendance. Topics discussed at the 2009 conference in Winnipeg can be found here.
Please submit the following information to the Program Committee chair, Sarah Wickett (wicketts@queensu.ca) by January 11, 2010.
- Your name
- Topic, a short description, and expected outcome of the discussion.
B. You may also suggest topics for roundtable discussions without being the facilitator. The planning committee would be very interested in your recommendations for facilitators of the suggested topics.
Please submit the following information to the Program Committee chair, Sarah Wickett (wicketts@queensu.ca) by January 11, 2010.
- Topic(s) of interest
- Names of potential facilitator(s)
Those submitting topics for roundtable discussions will be contacted by the Program Committee by February 1, 2010. Please note that conference registration fees will not be waived for facilitators of roundtables.
Posters
Poster sessions, which comprise visual presentations of information about new research findings or descriptions of innovative programs and practices, provide a less formal alternative to contributed papers. We invite poster submissions that reflect the overall conference theme of “Honouring Heritage, Inspiring Innovation.”
The poster author(s) will give a very brief introduction to their poster at the podium. There will be opportunities for delegates to interact directly with poster authors.
To be considered, please submit the following information by January 11, 2010:
- outline of the topic
- a short structured abstract of 250 words or less (follow JCHLA/JABSC Instructions to Authors at: http://pubservices.nrc-cnrc.ca/clients/eng/journals/instruct_jchla.html)
- author(s) name(s), address, email and work phone number (indicate corresponding author)
Send your proposal to the Poster Committee chair, Paola Durando (paola.durando@queensu.ca).
Those submitting abstracts for contributed posters will be contacted by the Poster Committee by February 1, 2010. Please note that conference registration fees will not be waived for presenters of contributed papers or posters.
