Information for Presenters

 Call for STAT!Talks

Time: 11:00 - 12:00
Date:  Thursday June 14th
Location: Sheraton, Ballroom East & Central

Got a great idea? Planning an exciting new program? Read a thought-provoking article?  Have a burning question?  Why not share it with your colleagues during STAT!Talks.

The STAT!Talk session will consist of 3 minute talks delivered in a rapid succession.  A STAT!Talk can be prepared in advance or crafted on the fly.  It can be serious, lighthearted, or both.  The primary goal is to share an idea with the audience in three minutes or less.  Anyone can participate.  NOTE: To keep the flow of ideas uninterrupted NO AV will be available – you will just talk!  A warning -- you WILL be hauled off the stage after 3 minutes, but folks will be able to catch up with you at the break for further mind melding.

If you already have an idea, forward your topic by email to Jean Maragno, Program Chair CHLA/ABSC Conference.  Email address:  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

If talking with your colleagues gives you an idea you want to share, sign-up sheets will also be available at the Registration Desk in the Sheraton Hotel starting Tuesday June 12th 2012.

So let's see some hot topics!

Information for Contributed Paper Presenters

All presenters must keep their paper presentation to 15 minutes or less.  Time keepers will be present to provide prompts to keep on schedule.  Please make sure you practice your presentation and abide to our time rule.  We have a very tight program and we want everyone to have their 15 minutes of fame.

Would you please forward me your power point presentation by Friday June 8th 2012.   All presentations will be loaded prior to the conference on laptops for each session.   Be sure to bring your presentation on a USB for back up.

If you have any further questions please Jean Maragno at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Information for Poster Presenters

Poster presenters will be allotted a Velcro display board (4ft. high x 8ft. wide); therefore we request that posters be printed this size. Presenters will be provided with Velcro strips for attaching the display material.

Poster boards will be available for set-up from 11:30am - 1:00pm, Wednesday June 13, 2012 in the Centre/East Ballroom and assistance will be available should you need it. Poster assignment will be by title, alphabetically (boards will be labelled for you in advance). Posters will open for viewing on Wednesday June 13 at 1:00pm and we would ask that you (or one of your co-presenters) attend the poster from 1:00 - 3:00pm that same day in order to give a brief (3-5 minute) oral introduction of your poster. Posters will remain open for viewing until Thursday June 14 at 3:00pm and should be removed by 5:00pm. (Note: you do not have to staff the poster on June 14.)

Some tips on designing posters:

  • Include the title, the author(s), affiliation(s), and a description of the research, highlighting the major elements that are covered in the structured abstract
  • Posters are visual – add pictures, graphs, charts etc. to make the poster interesting
  • Keep text to a minimum and use a large font size so that the poster can be read from a distance
  • Keep some white space - don't overwhelm the reader with too much text or graphics
  • Use color creatively
  • If you laminate the poster, consider using a low-glare or matte finish
  • Consider bringing copies of your poster for hand-out
  • Ensure that you poster is set up and taken down at the specified times
