Chapter Report 1999-2000
|
||
Our chapter met once in the past year, and has a meeting scheduled for June 28/2000. The October 22, 1999 Fall meeting was hosted by Irene Clarke and Judy Boyle of the Thunder Creek Health District in Moose Jaw. The morning was dedicated to a workshop on the hyperbariac chamber and its uses. The hyperbaric chamber was opened at Moose Jaw Union Hospital on November 14, 1997. The HBOT program and chamber provides a unique therapy that has not been available in either Saskatchewan or Manitoba (there are only 12 such programs in Canada). The therapy involved breathing 100% oxygen for up to 90 minutes while resting inside a pressurized chamber. It is the treatment of choice for carbon monoxide poisoning, cyanide poisoning, decompression sickness, gas embolus, and gas gangrene infection. It is also useful to assist problem wounds (i.e. diabetic) and skin grafts, radiation tissue injuries, crush injuries, burns and certain infections. The Business meeting consisted of a discussion about the Regina Health District and the Saskatchewan Health Serials List; designing a Web page for SHLA; and SHLA and CHLA memberships. The Spring meeting has been delayed to June 28, 2000. The June 28 meeting is being hosted by Lauraine Armstrong, University of Saskatchewan Library. The morning meeting will consists of a presentation by Kathie Clarke of the Canadian Cochrane Network and Centre. Executive positions will changing after this meeting. Muriel Griffiths |
