WAHLA met at Windsor Regional Hospital, Western Campus. Discussion included issues regarding DOCLINE; reciprocal arrangement with COHLA; the need for networking throughout the province and the state of Michigan. The need to address the title of the association to better recognize the composition of the group was introduced. No agreement was made regarding the new name. The issue was tabled until the next meeting. It was suggested that Evidence Based Medicine be the subject for our next continuing education seminar to be held at the Windsor Regional Hospital, David R. Brown Auditorium. Dr. Linda Baker was suggested as the key speaker. J. Jewer and T. Janik will work on the seminar and a May 11th presentation date was agreed upon. The librarians from the Detroit Metropolitan Medical Library Group joined us and WAHLA and MDMLG held a joint business meeting, followed by a luncheon provided by Ebsco Corporation of Boston, Ma. The luncheon provided an excellent opportunity for librarians from both sides of the border to network. Following the luncheon Mrs. Ronna Archbold and Mrs. Randy Esber of Ebsco presented their products "Ebsco Host" and "Ebsco Fulltext CD Rom products for the sixty attendees. Librarians were invited to review the programs and sign up for host trials for their individual libraries. On 2 April 1998, a meeting was held at the Lambton Health Unit, Point Edward (Sarnia) Ontario. Further discussion regarding the new title for WAHLA and a request for a logo to be designed for the association by J. Jewer and staff of Windsor Regional Hospital was addressed. It was agreed that the name and logo be presented to the members at the next regularly scheduled meeting 24 September 1998 in Chatham. The preparations for the Evidence Based Medicine Seminar are moving along at the anticipated pace; it was suggested that the seminar be opened up to librarians throughout the province, and all members concurred. Representatives for CHLA/OHLA/MDMLG gave their reports to the members to keep them abreast of issues facing librarians in the various associations. Copyright was introduced as an area of concern for all. No recommendations were made regarding copyright and health libraries. Health care restructuring continues to plague most members and dwindling library memberships seem to be the norm in the present provincial health climate. |
