Cochrane Library - National License Pilot - extension to Jan.31, 2010

There will be a one-month extension to the Cochrane national license pilot via Wiley until January 31, 2010. Access for all Canadians continues to be dependent on existing Cochrane subscribers renewing their subscriptions in 2010. The Task Force recognizes this is not a satisfactory model going forward for any current subscriber. We feel, however, the pilot has demonstrated the need for a national license for The Cochrane Library and the opportunity to continue the trial should be taken. More information about this will be communicated shortly.

CHLA/ABSC 2009 - Winnipeg - Thank you, Merci!

Winnipeg - Wow! Thank you for hosting us in your beautiful city and fabulous hotel.  The keynote speakers were inspiring, posters and contributed paper presenters were engaging and there were many opportunities to network and talk about issues.  In fact, like the Forks, I think we really came together - consider the recommendations coming out of the Table Talks, expressions of interest to volunteer, and the lingering conversations following the banquet.  We were re-energized with new ideas, new knowledge and new skills.

CISTI's consultation process

On April 7-8, NRC-CISTI held a Vision Workshop entitled “Creating a Strategic Vision for the New CISTI”. I was invited to participate, representing the health community, but unfortunately could not attend. Replacing me was Jim Henderson, Health Sciences Librarian from McGill. Participants included a variety of CISTI staff and Directors, including the National Science Library (NSL) Transformation Core Team. Internal Clients included representation from NRC, Clusters, and selected NRC Programs.

Someone on my staff recommended that I should look at your website and review the material you had on the “The Press”.

All of us appreciate your concern for what is happening to us and to the national science library side of CISTI as a result of the recent federal government’s Strategic Review.

OTTAWA and TORONTO — Gary Goodyear, Canada's minister of science, trumpeted the country's scientific achievements in a speech Wednesday but found himself deflecting, for the second day in a row, questions about his commitment to the theory of evolution.

What I did on St.Patrick's Day

Copies of the CHLA/ABSC letter to Mr. Harper have been sent to CMA, CHA, CNA, Cdn.Dental Assn., College of Family Physicians, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Cdn.Pharmacists Assn. and most importantly, Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology).
