What are the mentors and mentees getting out of the program so far?

My mentorship experience

My mentorship experience with Krista Clement has been very rewarding. My current position as a program analyst entails supporting a) clinical work through lit searches on drug efficacy and safety for a team of clinical pharmacists and b) consumer education through community workshops on medication safety. I am the only librarian in the team.

With Krista, we identified my main challenges as:
-Maintaining a focus on the most important activities
-Staying part of a team while in a unique or isolated position.

She has encouraged me to identify my key priorities to avoid getting overwhelmed and in particular to critically analyze my activities in terms of what value they add. I learned from her determination as a part-time librarian to stay connected with her geographically dispersed clients. She's really inspired me to celebrate the unique the opportunities I have to do public outreach - so much that I started to blog about it: http://shebamuturi.wordpress.com/

Krista has been outstanding in persistently checking on my progress. When she realized it was tricky to do formal e-mail feedback, she creatively suggested that we connect via Skype chat. I have been fortunate to benefit from such a thoughtful and committed mentor. The mentorship experience has inspired me to reflect on my work and my learning as I plan my career path. I highly recommend the mentorship program.
