The Scientist - Opinion: Open Access Coming of Age
A new open access initiative - PeerJWith the tagline of "If we can set a goal to sequence the Human Genome for $99, then why shouldn't we demand the same goal for the publication of research?" - Peer J is based on a new publishing model for scientific research. Authors pay a lifetime membership, which then allows them to publish articles in either of Peer J's publications - PeerJ or PeerJ Preprints - for free. Submissions start this summer - will be an interesting one to watch.

World Bank institutes Open Access policyThe World Bank recently announced it's Open Access Policy for Formal Publications and launched it's Open Knowledge Repository. The policy applies to manuscripts and all accompanying data sets (a) that result from research, analysis, economic and sector work, or development practice; (b) that have undergone peer review or have been otherwise vetted and approved for release to the public; and (c) for which internal approval for release is given on or after July 1, 2012, as well as to the final reports of any external research funded
