Unconference #1 for HLABC Members, Thursday February 16th, Justice Institute of BC in New West
I am happy to report that the first of two unconferences will take place on Feb. 16th 2012 in the computer lab of the Justice Institute of BC [map] in New Westminster starting at 6:30pm. Mark your calendars~!
Depending on the success of this meeting, we will hold a second unconference at UBC in March 2012.
What is an unconference?
From Wikipedia: "An unconference is a participant-driven meeting. The term "unconference" has been applied, or self-applied, to a wide range of gatherings that try to avoid one or more aspects of a conventional conference, such as high fees, sponsored presentations, and top-down organization. For example, in 2006, CNNMoney applied the term to diverse events including Foo Camp, BarCamp, Bloggercon, and Mashup Camp"
Unconference #1 Theme
In the HLABC survey, it was clear that members want a combination of structured content and the unconference. Therefore, I am looking to members for ideas for a 1/2 hour presentation. The theme of our unconference will be "Search Pearls for Librarians in Finding Health & Medical Information".
After the initial structured section, we will invite members to share their tips, tricks and questions about searching for health information, best evidence and other search topics.
Contact me with your ideas or share them via the HLABC listserv.
