CHLA/ABSC Secretariat Transition

Posted May 1, 2003

May 1st marks a major transition day for our Association.

Since 1987 CHLA/ABSC has used Medical Information Services, a company owned and operated by Dorothy Davey, for all our Secretariat services. Dorothy and her staff have been the folks behind the scenes, processing membership renewals, compiling the Directory, answering questions, selling publications, responding to advertisers - handling the multitude of business details that an association generates, and that simply can't be handled by a volunteer Board.

Regretfully, Dorothy has tendered her resignation as CHLA/ABSC Secretariat, effective today. Dorothy has agreed to see the last issue of vol. 24 of the BMC through to completion this year, but after an RFP process this spring, the CHLA/ABSC Secretariat services are being moved to AssociationsFirst, another company based in Toronto. Our new contact information is:

CHLA/ABSC
39 River Street
Toronto ON
M5A 3P1
Phone: 416.646.1600
Fax: 416.646.9460

CHLA/ABSC owes Dorothy and her MIS staff (Kim Pagel in particular) an enormous debt of thanks. Dorothy and crew have worked untiringly for the Association and the Secretariat has been the one constant in CHLA/ABSC for over 15 years. Dorothy was honoured by CHLA/ABSC several years ago with a lifetime membership in recognition of her service.

Dorothy is not retiring altogether; MIS still serves as the Secretariat for the Toronto Health Libraries Association, and also provides consultant library services. She and husband Charlie are actually going to take a spring vacation this year (a real break from doing the obligatory work involved with the annual conference), but has assured the Board that she plans to attend next year's conference in St. John's.

So, on behalf of the Board of the CHLA/ABSC, I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dorothy Davey for her years of generous service to the Association. I know that Dorothy's many colleagues will also join us in thanking Dorothy, and wishing her the very best for the future.
