Introducing Incoming Board Members We are pleased to announce the incoming members of the Board of Directors for 2012/13. Newly elected Board members are Charlotte Beck, Vice-President/President Elect; Jennifer McKinnell, CE Coordinator; and Shannon Gordon, Secretary. We had a very strong roster of candidates running for these positions this year. Thank-you to everyone who put their name forward. Vice President/President Elect: Charlotte Beck has broad experience in a variety of health information settings, and in service to the profession. Since 2003 Charlottehas been the faculty liaison librarian for Physical Therapy, Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, and Audiology and Speech Sciences and the lead on Aboriginal Health and Global Health at Universityof British Columbia. Prior to joining UBC Charlotte worked in business and hospital libraries. She has held numerous executive positions in the Health Libraries Association of British Columbia, including President, and served on theCHLA/ABSC Board of Directors for two terms, as Secretary. CE Coordinator: Jennifer McKinnell is currently the Head of Public Services in the Health Sciences Library at McMasterUniversityand serves as the Liaison Librarian to the Bachelor of health Sciences Program. As a liaison, she was instrumental in the creation of a for-credit information literacy mentorship undergraduate course. Jennifer plays an active role in the Golden Horseshoe Health Libraries Association (CHLA Chapter), serving as the current President and CE Chair of the CHLA 2012 Planning Committee. Secretary: Shannon Gordon joined Memorial University Libraries in 2006, and began working in the Health Sciences Library in 2009. Shannon provides research support to students/staff/faculty/residents in the Faculty of Medicine, and Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy. She also provides support to physicians, and other health professionals, with the St. John’s Health Sciences Centre. Shannon has become increasingly involved with research and open access initiatives at Memorial University, and is involved with the CHLA/ABSC Open Access Interest Group, and Memorial University Senate Committee on Copyright. Hamilton 2012– Register now! Don’t delay -register now for the Hamilton CHLA/ABSC Cascade of Knowledge Conference, June 11-15th. Have a look at the continuing education courses – enroll early to avoid disappointment. The Conference boasts a terrific variety of papers and posters. Golden Horseshoe Health Libraries Association (GHHLA) has put together a strong program that will challenge, inform and delight. The main conference venue is the Sheraton Hotel in the heart of downtown Hamilton. The opening reception will be held steps away from the Sheraton at the elegant Art Gallery of Hamilton, in a magnificent glass-enclosed pavilion with access to a beautifully landscaped sculpture garden. Our third venue is the Royal Botanical Gardens- an ecological jewel whose treasures include a lush indoor MediterraneanGardenadjacent to the banquet ballroom.. Deadline for Chapter Initiatives Fund Applications –May 21st 2012 The CHLA/ABSCChapter Initiatives Fund is intended to support and recognize special initiatives, activities, programs or projects undertaken by CHLA/ABSCChapters, which further the mission of CHLA/ABSC. The Board of Directors review applications at each board meeting. Is there a research project, a continuing education activity or a promotional program that your Chapter would like to undertake? February Board Meeting The Board of Directors held a Board meeting via teleconference over four days February 28.29, March 1st and March 8th. A number of ongoing administrative issues pertaining to CHLA, were on the agenda. We also adjudicated the CIF grant proposals (see below) and the awards submissions – to be revealed at the conference in June. Chapter Initiative Fund (CIF) Grants - NLHLA, MHLA, and SOHLIN At the Fall Board meeting the Board had approved in principle the CIF proposal from NLHLA for their workshop: Evaluating Medical Apps. The proposal was subsequently fully approved by the Board. Two other grant applications were submitted prior to the February Board meeting, and both were approved by the Board of Directors: · The Maritime Health Libraries Association (MHLA) proposal for Vision 20/20, a strategic planning exercise to ensure the relevancy and sustainability of the regional association · Southwestern Ontario Health Libraries and Information Networks (SOHLIN) proposal to conduct research project entitled Perceived Quality of Mediated Literature Searches Conducted b by Clinical Librarians Next Board of Directors Meetings The CHLA/ABSCBoard will meet twice in Hamilton on June 11 and June 15.
