CHLA website move this weekend (October 17-18, 2009)
Update: Sunday afternoon
Looks like the domain name servers have been updated. Now working on restoring email forwards, and distribution lists. Like packing, when travelling, I'm always relieved to figure out what one thing I invariably forgot when I get to my destination. Of course I forgot at least one thing in this whole operation too. I forgot to get the email distribution lists off the old host before the domain change happened. Oh well, I can reconstruct those... Hope that was the worst of it! (yes, I'm touching wood!)
Update Saturday afternoon:
I've moved the site database to the new host, which is where I'm posting this. Just in the process of uploading any new files from the old host to the new host.
I'm in the process of moving the chla-absc.ca site to a new host. As the final steps, the current Drupal site will be taken down this weekend, on Saturday, all of the files backed up, and moved to the new host. Once this is done, I will initiate the transfer of the domain to the new host. It may take up to 12 hours for the domain change to propagate across the Internet's domain name servers. This move is a long time coming and will allow us to finally upgrade to the latest version of Drupal, which should allow us to better integrate subsites within the drupal framework through such modules as Organic Groups. It will also allow us to add many new features to our hosting, such as having our own list serves through the application MailMan, the setup of "subdomains", eg. nnlh.chla-absc.ca, the addition of wiki's, and well, all sorts of potential that our current host hasn't offered. So, the site will be down most of Saturday, but hopefully by Sunday, we'll be back up on the new host. The easiest way to tell is if the website actually loads, then the domain change was successful.Wish me luck!Tim
