CHLA/ABSC Mentorship Interest Group

Terms of Reference

The CHLA/ABSC Mentorship Interest Group is a forum in which CHLA/ABSC members, will develop and nurture a mentoring program in the association and its chapters.  Association mentoring programs contribute to: professional competency development, career advancement, staff retention and increased mobility.  Successful mentoring programs require the energy and commitment of a core group of volunteers who act as mentors, who provide guidance, who match mentors and mentees, who champion the program and who provide ongoing sustainability to the program.

The focus of the mentoring program will be those CHLA/ABSC members already in the field and not students. There is an outreach program in place for students.

Members of the group will:

Keep abreast of other association mentorship programs and best practices.
Keep the bibliography, guidelines and other resources for the program up to date on the website.
Discuss mentorship issues and literature.
Coordinate a mentorship event at the CHLA/ABSC annual conference.

Market the program and serve as resource people for the mentors/mentees.

Evaluate the program

Members will participate actively through online discussions and in annual meetings at the CHLA/ABSC conference.
A convener will be elected from among the group’s membership and serve a maximum of two years.
There is no limit on the number of members in the group.
Membership is open to all CHLA/ABSC members.

Discussions of relevant issues, questions, etc., may be held in the Membership Interest Group Forum.
