Awards and Funding

The members of CHLA/ABSC can apply for different funding opportunities or be nominated to receive an award. CHLA/ABSC also supports students enrolled in accredited masters programs in library and information science or library technician programs through the JCHLA/JABSC Student Paper Prize.

Application Deadlines:

Application deadline for all awards except the JCHLA/JABSC Student Paper Prize is February 1; the Student Paper Prize deadline is April 30.

Awards

CHLA/ABSC Canadian Hospital Librarian of the Year Award: Recognizes the contribution of an individual hospital librarian to the advancement of health care and health librarianship in Canada. Past Recipients

CHLA/ABSC Emerging Leader Award: This award recognizes the skills, enthusiasm and energy that new health information professionals contribute to the profession. Past Recipients

CHLA/ABSC Flower Award for Innovation and Quality Improvement: Recognizes health information professionals or teams who have created or demonstrated improvements in health sciences library services for their users or the profession through innovative thinking and approaches. Past Recipients

CHLA / ABSC Library Information Technician Award of Outstanding Achievement: This new award recognizes the contribution of an individual library information technician to the advancement of health care and health libraries in Canada. Past Recipients

David S. Crawford Honorary Lifetime Membership Award Past Recipients

JCHLA/JABSC Student Paper Prize: This award recognizes the library and information science or library technician student who submits the best unpublished paper on health sciences librarianship to the competition. Past Recipients

Margaret Ridley Charlton Award of Outstanding Achievement: Recognizes a librarian who has made a significant contribution to the field of health sciences librarianship in Canada. Past Recipients

Funding Opportunities

The total budget available for all three grants for each fiscal year shall be set by the Board of Directors at its annual Fall Meeting. All funding needs to be claimed within the same fiscal year.

CHLA/ABSC Professional Development Grant : The purpose of the Professional Development Grant is to enhance access to professional development opportunities for individual CHLA/ABSC members.

CHLA/ABSC Research Grant :The purpose of this grant is to foster and support research in the field of health sciences librarianship by providing funds to CHLA/ABSC members who are conducting research in this field.

CHLA/ABSC Annual Conference Grants : The purpose of the CHLA/ABSC Annual Conference Registration Grant is to enhance access to professional development opportunities for individual CHLA/ABSC members by offering conference registration.
